Who qualifies for Michigan Home Help?
Home Help is a Michigan Medicaid program that pays for personal care in the home — for people of every age. Here is what determines eligibility, and how the process works.
Any age qualifies
Children, teens, young adults, adults, and seniors are all eligible if they meet the other criteria — eligibility is based on need, not age.
Active Michigan Medicaid
The person receiving care must live in Michigan and be enrolled in Medicaid. If an application is pending, we can begin private pay and transition later.
A need for hands-on help
Eligibility is based on needing help with activities of daily living — bathing, dressing, grooming, eating, toileting, transferring, or mobility.
A doctor's medical review
A physician, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, occupational therapist, or physical therapist completes the Adult Services Medical Needs Certification (form MDHHS-6200) confirming the need for personal care in the home.
How the MDHHS process works

1. Request Home Help from MDHHS
You (or we) contact the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to open a Home Help request for the person needing care.

2. In-home assessment by an MDHHS adult services worker
A caseworker visits, reviews daily activities, and scores the level of assistance needed for each task.

3. Hours are authorized
MDHHS approves a monthly number of paid care hours based on that assessment, and reviews it periodically as needs change.

4. You choose your provider — and your caregiver
Alamat Care Group manages payroll, compliance, and coordination. In most cases a trusted relative can be the paid care professional (a spouse cannot be paid for a spouse, and a parent cannot be paid for their own child under 18).
